Hello, we are Kestrel Class!
Our teacher is Miss Williams and our class teaching assistant is Mrs Harber, who is with us every morning.
We are a mixed age class of Year 2 and Year 3 children. We sometimes work as a whole class and sometimes in groups. We have a topic based curriculum and each term we have an exciting topic. We also like to bring in from home, information, books, artefacts and objects to support our learning and share them with the class.
This term our topic has been Prehistoric People.
In Year 3 part of our PE curriculum is swimming. Year 3 children are swimming every Thursday during the winter term.
On Tuesday we have our Forest School sessions which help us to develop our understanding of nature as well as improving our social skills and support our emotional well-being.
Supporting your child at home
- Reading – We hope that children are able to read aloud to an adult at least three times a week. This includes being able to discuss what they have been reading, including inferred meaning. Reading as often as possible will greatly support your child’s progress in reading and also other areas of the curriculum that require reading skills.
- Mental maths skills – instant recall of number bonds and basic addition and subtraction facts i.e. knowing that 6 + 5 = 11 or 45 + 55 = 100 without having to work them out.
- Times tables- Times tables help our understanding of many areas of maths. Children should aim to learn their tables so they can not only count in steps of that number but also rapidly answer questions out of sequence and know the inverse division calculation.
- Spellings – Please support learning any spellings that your child brings home including understanding the meanings of the words when read in context. Click here for Parent Guidance:
